The Academy is The Automated Technology Group’s own apprenticeship programme. Believing that technical skills are vital to the future success of British manufacturing, we are dedicated to providing meaningful training and development for young people. Our CEO, Andy Robinson, began his working life as an apprentice and has been instrumental in developing our ethos of ‘growing our own’ talent through The Academy:

“Beginning my own career as an apprentice, I know the true value of grass-roots, on-the-job training. In my view, it’s the best possible platform for a career in engineering or management.” Andy Robinson, CEO

Through a combination of on-the-job training and technical study, our salaried apprentices achieve nationally recognised qualifications and also acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence required for a successful career in engineering. Supervised by a dedicated Academy Manager, our five-year scheme allows apprentices to gain experience in a variety of business functions – such as finance, human resources and marketing – as well as on-site work for prestigious customers. With some of the training tailored to the business needs of The Automated Technology Group and significant input from mentors within the company, apprentices are in an excellent position to continue their career within the group on completion of their course.

The Academy has been accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology, emphasising the programme’s high quality and linking the apprenticeship scheme to the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer.
