Wood Group, the parent company of The Automated Technology Group (ATG), recently acquired CEC Controls Company, Inc. (CEC). Established in 1966, CEC is a designer and supplier of industrial and process control systems, with over 220 personnel across 12 North American sites and an office in Romania. Headquartered in Warren, Michigan (near Detroit), the company is primarily active in the automotive manufacturing sector, with clients including Ford, GM and Fiat-Chrysler.
CEC provides conveyor controls engineering, error-proofing solutions, vision engineering and material & logistics solutions. The acquisition supports Wood Group’s accelerated growth strategy for its Automation & Control business. It not only broadens Wood Group’s offer to the US automotive market but also establishes provision of services to the automotive sector in Canada, China, India and Mexico.
Robin Watson, Wood Group’s Chief Executive, commented: “Bringing 50 years of expertise in delivering services to the automotive sector, CEC Controls significantly complements and strengthens the innovative technical solutions we provide to clients within automation and control. The acquisition supports the geographical broadening of our footprint within the automotive sector, particularly in the US; deepening our presence in the key automotive hub of Detroit, where CEC Controls is headquartered. It also provides us the opportunity to further enhance the industrial process & control capabilities we offer to this industry and adjacent sectors including aerospace, logistics, water and pharmaceuticals.”
Wood Group’s Vice President Manufacturing Industry, Andrew Robinson, said: “Following the addition of ATG to its Automation & Control business in September 2015, the acquisition of CEC expands Wood Group’s global presence further and offers exciting opportunities to share expertise and enhance client solutions in order to leverage further international growth.”
